Midwest Horse Fair

midwest_horse_fair_logo.jpg

The Midwest Horse FairŽ is one of the top 3-day horse fairs in America. Held in Madison, Wisconsin at the Alliant Energy Center, it has been growing and going strong since 1979. In 2010 the Midwest Horse FairŽ will celebrate its 31st annual event.

Every year the Midwest Horse FairŽ gets bigger & better, and 2010 will be no different!  Every performance is a unique experience as exhibitors incorporate this theme into their demonstrations.

What is there to do at the Midwest Horse FairŽ?

Whether you are a horseless horse lover, new horse owner, or seasoned professional, there will be something that you’ll enjoy at the Midwest Horse FairŽ.  Non-horse owners, families and children can meet the horses up close by touring the eight different barns. To help make future breeding decisions, mare owners have the opportunity to view stallions of all different breeds from around the Midwest in Stallion Avenue.  Many different breeds of horses are represented during the breed demonstrations in the Coliseum.  Hundreds of clinics, seminars and educational events are presented by some of the top horse professionals from around the country.  Over 500 vendor booths offer shopping opportunities with something for everyone.  Enjoy the “mane” event feature presentation focusing on the magnificent horse.

Who puts on the Midwest Horse FairŽ?

The Midwest Horse FairŽ is owned by the Wisconsin State Horse Council, Inc. All proceeds from the Fair are returned to the WSHC and are used to represent and foster a unified equine industry in Wisconsin, promote the equine through leadership, education, service and communication, and to take a proactive role in the future growth and development of the equine industry.

VARJ Conference -- Virginia Beach, VA

  VARJ.ORG

Virginia Association of Regional Jails

History of the Virginia Association of Regional Jails (As of 12-20-00):
Circa the summer of 1988, the regional jail superintendents at the time decided to meet periodically to discuss common concerns and to determine how their jails could be enhanced. Those jails were the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center (Supt. Dick West) in Saluda, the Albemarle-Charlottesville Joint Security Complex (Supt. Mike McMahan) in Charlottesville, the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center (Supt. Dick Kiekbush) in Manassas, the Rappahannock Security Center Regional Jail (Supt. Bob Mason) in Fredericksburg and the just opened-up Piedmont Regional Jail (Supt. Art Lane) in Farmville.

These informal meetings continued as other regional jails became operational, and Morty Leibowitz of the Rappahannock Security Center Regional Jail agreed to become President of the "group" in 1991. In 1992 Sterling Proffitt of the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange was the first elected President. Dr. Arthur L. Lane, Jr., Superintendent of the Piedmont Regional Jail, wrote a "Mission Statement", and Mr. Proffitt authored the very first set of By-Laws, which were adopted on 11-13-92. Thus, this informal group of regional jail superintendents became known as the Virginia Association of Regional Jail Superintendents (VARJS). Shortly thereafter, the VARJS became incorporated and was listed on file with the State Corporation Commission and was issued a certificate on 5-12-93.

Subsequently, the By-Laws were amended by its members on 5-7-93 and 3-10-94, respectively. Further, other amendments were effective on 7-12-96, 9-11-98, and 18-99, which expanded the list of persons who could be voted as an "Honorary Member". Delegate John J. "Butch" Davies, III was chosen by the superintendents at a meeting held on 1-8-99 at the Southside Regional Jail as the first Honorary Member", who was not a former regional jail superintendent. Delegate Davies was recognized for his efforts in being the patron of 36 pieces of successful legislation from 1992 to 1998 on behalf of regional jails. Another amendment to the By-Laws was approved on 3-12-99 in Williamsburg and allowed a superintendent to select a "primary designee" who could attend Association meetings in his/her stead, and with full voting rights. Further, on 5-3-99, also in Williamsburg, the By-Laws were amended to allow assistant regional jail superintendents to serve as officers of VARJ.

The receational boating season is just around the corner and what better way to kick-off the 2010 boating year than by attending the Orange County Boat Show at Anaheim Convention Center. And with gorgeous Southern California spring weather just around the corner, our local boating season is once again primed to kick into full gear.

During the past seventeen years, the Orange County Boat Show has grown to become one of the most popular events in the southland. Not only is the boat show centrally located, especially convenient for South County residents, but the size, diversity and selection of new boats, personal watercraft, trailers, engines and marine accessories is nothing short of staggering.
The Orange County Boat Show is jammed packed with acres of family runabouts, ski boats, fishing boats, pontoons, high performance sportboats, cruisers and PWCs all under one roof.

In addition, SCMA will be hosting a special "Discover Boating" area where experienced boaters and novices alike can visit to receive valuable information regarding boating safety, exciting new destinations, and the "hows and whys" of how to get more out of the recreational boating experience. Don't forget, the Orange County Boat Show is open until 9pm on Friday and Saturday nights, so come early and stay late!!!

If you want to see what's new in boating for 2010, don't miss this boat show! And if you're in the purchasing mood, be sure and take advantage of outstanding money saving boat show offers and discounts. Remember.....life's always better with a boat!
